Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 4x12-hour shifts, every other week (EOW) required
- Unit Assignment: NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics; floating between these units and IU Health North Hospital possible
- Facility Type: Children's hospital experience required within the last 3 years; open to travelers with level 1 adult facility experience
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years PICU experience
- Must have recent Children's Hospital experience (within last 3 years)
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience required as primary assignment is in L&D
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Indiana State Respiratory Therapist License (IN state license required; temporary license accepted if applied for both temporary and permanent)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NBRC RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required if placed in L&D, can be obtained after offer
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - preferred but not required
- Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience
- Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Experience working with Adult patients
Required Skills & Competencies
- Experience in NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics units
- Ability to float between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units
- Must have L&D experience
- Children's hospital experience within the last 3 years
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Unit competency exam required
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - preferred but not required
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31), no declinations accepted
- Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions within 30-90 days of start
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
Additional Information
- Floating between units and facilities may be required
- Indiana RN travel restrictions effective 11/30/24 do not apply to Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
- Mandatory RRT modules must be completed prior to orientation with a hard deadline (21 modules total)
- Various facility-specific compliance and orientation documents must be completed prior to start
