Job Opportunity: Echo Tech Cardiac Sonographer Pediatrics
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: Days, 8 or 10-hour shifts, Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
- Call responsibilities: Weekday call 1 every week, weekend call 1 every 7 weeks
- Floating required: May be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
- Patient population: Care for patients from pediatrics through adulthood across outpatient clinics, inpatient units, cath lab, and emergency department
- Work environment: Dynamic, collaborative team using advanced ultrasound equipment
- Pediatric Echo Lab accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in pediatric transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric echocardiography experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience performing adult echocardiography
- Experience working with both pediatric and adult patients
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Associate degree in Biological Sciences, Radiology, Ultrasound, or relevant health sciences field

Facility Requirements
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Floating to other departments or locations may be required if primary department needs change
Certifications (as applicable)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required depending on unit assignment (check unit description)
- National certification verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
- Education verification required for ultrasound and cardiac sonographer programs
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID form required prior to start
- Drug screening required per Vaya standard for clinical candidates
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose in adulthood) required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions considered
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; medical or religious exemptions considered
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form required for direct patient care providers
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology department
Testing & Competency
- Pediatric Telemetry Test required for inpatient pediatric units, with strict passing criteria and remediation process
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication as applicable
Documentation
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Signed acknowledgments for safety manuals and pass/fail testing required
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract position for a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer with a minimum of 2 years echocardiography experience in both adult and pediatric populations. The role requires registration in both adult and pediatric echocardiography and BLS certification. The position involves floating between units as needed and requires compliance with extensive background, health, and competency documentation and testing. The work environment is collaborative and technologically advanced, serving a wide patient age range in a Magnet®-designated hospital setting.
