Description

Job Opportunity: RN - Pediatrics

Location: Bemidji, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care for general inpatient medical-surgical pediatric patients, including some intermediate level pediatric cases.
  • No PICU in the facility.
  • May assist as a second nurse in the special care nursery or care for well babies in postpartum as needed.
  • Typical patient admissions include respiratory distress, IV antibiotics, constipation, appendicitis, gastroenteritis, etc.

Unit Information

  • Pediatric beds: 6
  • Special care nursery rooms: 10
  • Postpartum rooms: 9
  • Labor & Delivery rooms: 6
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio:
    • 1:4 for general med-surg pediatric patients
    • 1:2-3 for more acute patients

Equipment & Systems

  • EPIC electronic health records
  • Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Philips patient monitors

Schedule & Shifts

  • 12-hour rotating shifts
  • Every 3rd weekend required
  • Open to straight night shifts
  • Travel RN may be the only pediatric nurse on shift but will not work alone
  • Department includes pediatrics, special care nursery, gynecology, postpartum, and labor & delivery

Floating Requirements

  • May float to med-surg, telemetry, and ICU units
  • Department is working toward becoming a closed unit

Orientation & Training

  • 2 shifts of orientation provided for travel nurses

Dress Code

  • Navy scrubs with option to wear fun tops

Required Qualifications

  • Active Minnesota RN license
  • Minimum 2 years pediatric RN experience (highest required years of experience)
  • BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required
  • NRP certification preferred

Additional Notes

  • The department serves a large rural area in Northern Minnesota.
  • Coverage needed primarily for maternity leaves.
  • Goal to expand services for women and children close to home.

Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.
