Job Description

• Work in a Cardiac Cath Lab with 6 suites/labs.
• Average cases per day: 4-20 (1:1 nurse to case ratio).
• Common patient diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, congenital heart defects, TAVR, MITRACLIP, Peripheral vascular cases.
• Cath Lab is separate from Interventional Radiology (IR) and Electrophysiology (EP).
• Nurses must be able to read cardiac strips and titrate drips occasionally.
• EMR system: EPIC.
• Equipment includes GE and Philips monitors, McKesson system.
• Cardiologists are on call 24/7, year-round.
• Charge nurse available as resource and coordinator; nurse on call acts as charge nurse.
• Cath Lab Techs are Registered Radiologic Technologists (RTRs). Call teams consist of 4 people; regular cases have 3-person teams (1 RN, 2 RTRs).
• Shifts: Four 9-hour shifts per week (4 x 9's). Occasionally may work overtime for emergent cases.

Call and Scheduling Requirements

• Weeknight call: 6-8 call shifts per month (primary and backup call).
• Weekend call: Every 6-7 weekends, starting Friday 5:30 PM to Monday 6:00 AM. Additional backup weekend shifts (24-hour shifts) about once per month for emergent cases.
• Holiday call: Includes Easter backup call shift.
• Floating: No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory.
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation.
• Scrubs provided.

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that application process has been initiated).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA).
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.

Required Experience

• Ability to read cardiac strips and titrate drips.
• Years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated, assume minimum 1 year in Cardiac Cath Lab or related cardiac nursing experience.

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
• Drug-free workplace: Negative drug screen required for all panels.
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours.
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay required.

This position is ideal for experienced Cardiac Cath Lab RNs comfortable with high-acuity cardiac cases and call responsibilities.
