Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist

Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide respiratory care to neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Serve as a resource and trainer within the respiratory department.


Required Qualifications

  • Montana Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Certification (NBRC)
  • American Heart Association BLS certification
  • American Heart Association ACLS certification (to be obtained within 3 months of hire)
  • American Heart Association PALS certification (to be obtained within 3 months of hire)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (to be obtained within 3 months of hire)

Preferred:

  • Certification in Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist (NBRC-NPS) and/or Adult Critical Care Specialist (NBRC-ACCS)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy (based on preferred qualifications and typical expectations)
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Essential Job Functions

  • Administer respiratory therapy treatments and nebulized medications across all age groups
  • Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators and perform critical care duties
  • Perform arterial punctures for blood gas analysis
  • Maintain and operate respiratory therapy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Document all patient care and treatments accurately in medical records
  • Develop and implement patient and family teaching plans
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuing education activities
  • Attend department meetings and maintain professional competency

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Night shift, approximately 36 hours per week
  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours
  • On-call duties may be required
  • Regular and sustained attendance is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, pushing/pulling
  • Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity
  • Ability to work in a busy, sometimes stressful environment
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations

Additional Notes

  • Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
  • Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered

  • Advanced math and data interpretation skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to work varied shifts and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient with computer applications including MS Office and electronic medical records (EMR) systems
