Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Tech (IR Tech)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Interventional Radiology)
• Shift: 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM (Four 10-hour shifts with rotating day off)
• Occasional week of 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• Daily Caseload: 5-8 cases per tech
• On-call: Yes, 1 weeknight every other week, 1-2 weekends within contract, 1 possible holiday
• Weekend Requirement: No
• Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

• Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in South Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of recent Interventional Radiology Technologist experience
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification
• Experience in Embolization procedures
• Experience in PE Thrombectomy procedures

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I-9 form and attestation confirming work eligibility in the US
• Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
• Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
• Background checks including:

  • SSN Trace
  • Statewide and National Criminal checks
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • FACIS 3
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
• Employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
• Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
• Color Blind Testing prior to start
• Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
• Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Initial physical exam updated annually
• Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
• Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) with documentation uploaded before deadline
• COVID vaccines are highly preferred but not required; vaccination records or declination form must be uploaded

Certifications & Licensure

• State license verification (South Carolina Radiology license required)
• NURSYS verification for applicable licenses
• ACLS certification required for Cath Lab Techs and Interventional Radiology RNs (not techs)
• BLS required for all clinical staff
• Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke, CHEMO) depending on unit and role
• IV Therapy certification if applicable (for select LPNs)

Additional Notes

• Radiation badge processing can take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start without it.
• Agencies must provide radiation exposure reports monthly or quarterly.
• Travelers must complete all required modules and upload all required documentation before orientation.
• Facility may deny start or send travelers home if documentation or modules are incomplete.

This position is ideal for IR techs with at least 1 year of experience in vascular access and embolization procedures, who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital environment. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
