Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Description

  • Inpatient Respiratory Therapist (RRT) role with weekend shifts as needed; no call required.
  • Schedule flexibility is a must.
  • Work settings include ICU/Adult Care, PICU/Pediatric Care, and NICU Level III.
  • Many RT-driven protocols in place.
  • Teaching hospital experience required.
  • Epic electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years is required and non-negotiable.
  • All specialties worked must be well documented on each employment entry.
  • No block schedules allowed.
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation.
  • Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Vermont.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Adult patients and Pediatric patients, including Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience.
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NRP.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA certified
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - current upon submission
  • State Respiratory Therapist license valid for Vermont

Additional Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually.
  • Education verification required based on job.
  • National tech certification verification within 30 days of assignment start.
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as required.
  • Color blind testing required.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • N95 fit test required prior to assignment start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive TB
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or exemption (medical/religious) required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
    • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required if working at NY facilities

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays.
  • Must complete EPIC and Cornerstone modules prior to start (approximately 8 hours, non-billable).
  • All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained.
  • Complete all required facility-specific documents and forms prior to start.

Work History & References

  • 2 professional references verified from assignments within the last 3 years.
  • 2-year verification of most recent clinical work history required.
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required.
  • Complete employment application required.

Important Notes

  • Public transportation is not accessible; reliable transportation is essential.
  • Vehicle must be equipped for winter conditions (Nov-Apr).
  • Must comply with all facility policies including dress code, telephone usage, and safety protocols.
  • COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work may be required.
  • Must maintain mask-wearing and social distancing as per facility guidelines.

This position is ideal for an experienced RRT with pediatric and neonatal ICU experience, who is comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment and has recent Epic EMR experience.
