Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7 AM, Nights)
- Patient Ratios: Based on acuity
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not applicable
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility and department needs, including sister facilities
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system

- No explicit requirement for prior travel experience

- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November), with peak activity in August and September. Travelers should consider this before accepting new or extension assignments during this period.

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, State-specific Medicaid Excluded Providers
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing roles
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
Competency & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exams as applicable
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of orientation modules and facility-specific training required before start
- Modules estimated to take 4-6 hours for this location
- COVID and flu vaccine documentation must be uploaded into facility system prior to start
- Facility-specific job description must be signed prior to start
Notes
- Travelers must be prepared for possible floating to other units or sister facilities within scope
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Travelers should be aware of hurricane season emergency response assignments
This position is ideal for ER Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of ER experience, who hold a valid SC or compact RN license, and have current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Experience with Epic and willingness to float within the facility are required.
