Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM – 11:00 PM)
- On-call: Up to 2 weekend call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM)
- Holiday Work: Required to work at least one holiday period (Christmas and New Year's)
- Floating: Must float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities
Facility Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- 21 Operating Room suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% Registered Nurses trained to scrub and circulate, 25% Certified Surgical Technologists
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, with OR experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
- During hurricane season (June-November), employees may be assigned to emergency response teams
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
- Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS, and state-specific searches
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
- Employment history verification (last 3 clinical employers)
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days prior to start
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination/booster documentation
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- COVID-19 vaccination records highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Apr 30)
- Radiation badge process required before starting clinical work
Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Upload clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
- Completion of facility-specific first day instructions and OurDay modules
- Upload vaccination records (COVID, flu) into facility system
- Compliance with facility safety and competency exams including medication and OR competency exams
- Color blindness testing required prior to start

- First-time travelers accepted
- Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, dynamic OR environment with cutting-edge technology
- Must be flexible to float between units as needed
- Facility is a Magnet designated academic trauma center with a strong emphasis on nurse-driven care
