Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele-ER Border - Nights)

Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (19:30 - 08:00)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Start Date: March 23, 2026


Job Description

  • Role involves care in a fast-paced, high-volume emergency department (ED) border setting with medical-surgical/telemetry (MS/T) and intermediate care (IMC) units.
  • Patient census ranges from 10 to 40 daily with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Patient diagnoses are varied and complex, typical of ED admissions.
  • Floating between ED borders, extenders to MS/T, and IMC units within specialty and scope is required.
  • Pre-scheduled on-call shifts are not required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing
  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Immunizations and health screenings required within 72 hours of contract signing, including:
    • TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (not required for ER RN unless pediatric ER)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (2025-26 season)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start.
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start.
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start.
  • Verification of previous 5 years of work history.
  • Compliance with Maryland State Exclusions List screening within 30 days of start.
  • Required competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as applicable.
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, confidentiality agreement, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment must be completed prior to start.

Work Environment

  • High volume, fast-paced emergency department border role.
  • Patient care includes ED, MS/T, and IMC border patients.
  • Floating between units within specialty and scope is expected.
  • Night shift work with every other weekend and holiday coverage required.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in medical-surgical, telemetry, or emergency nursing who are comfortable working nights in a dynamic, high-acuity environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
