Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Discipline: Registered Nurse
- Specialty: Medical Surgical (MS RN)
- Shift: 3x12 hour rotating shifts (7p-7:30a / 7a-7:30p), including holiday rotation
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
- Floating: Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs
- Experience Required: 3 years of Medical Surgical experience (higher end of 2-3 years stated)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Unit Description
- 13-bed inpatient adult acute med-surg unit open 24/7
- Serves medical and surgical patients from general or family medicine service lines
- Accepts direct and new admissions from ED, post recovery, or other inpatient units
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with adult patients
Work Environment & Expectations
- Guaranteed hours with allowance for 1 shift call-off per 2 weeks
- Rotating shifts with holiday coverage
- Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, and Magnet Hospital
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
Health & Compliance Requirements
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required
Health Documents
- Physical exam updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titers or vaccines), Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blind testing required prior to start
- Competency exam required
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start is mandatory
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules must be completed before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Parking permit available with a $20 registration fee for garage use
Additional Notes
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; travelers should consider this before accepting assignments during this period
- Facility allows block scheduling with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
