Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) - Nights

Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (19:30 - 08:00), every other weekend required, holidays as scheduled

Job Summary

• Work in a 46-bed Emergency Department with an average daily census of 140 patients
• Patient age group: All ages
• Common patient diagnoses: Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, Respiratory Illness, Respiratory Arrest
• Special equipment used: Belmont in trauma, Giraffe warmer for neonates, Rapid infuser, Lucas device for cardiac arrests
• Floating required within specialty as needed
• Scheduled on-call not required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4, up to 1:5 with lower acuity patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • PALS (American Heart Association)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with EPIC charting system

Additional Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children)
  • TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) with annual updates as applicable
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccination/declination as applicable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (2025-26 season)
• COVID vaccine no longer required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
• Fit test for respirator masks within 1 year of start
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, age-specific, dysrhythmia/EKG, and color blindness testing as applicable
• Photo for badge and completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of work history

Work Environment & Expectations

• Floating within the specialty as needed
• Work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled
• High acuity emergency department setting with diverse patient population and critical care needs

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs who are comfortable with night shifts and working in a fast-paced trauma and acute care environment. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for highly experienced candidates.
