Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist

Location: Alton, Illinois

Job Description

• Provide general respiratory therapy duties including drawing arterial blood gases (ABGs); do not perform EKGs.
• Assist with intubation but independent intubation is not required.
• Treat primarily adult patients; rare pediatric cases in the ER before transfer.
• Work areas include Inpatient, Emergency Room, and Outpatient Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) lab.
• Average treatments per day: 12-24.
• Responsible for all in-house respiratory treatments.

Schedule & Work Environment

• 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM or 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM.
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed; typically consistent with day or night shifts.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
• Holidays: not required but may assist if needed.
• Call or standby call: not required but may be requested based on census and acuity; 1-hour call response time.
• Lead respiratory supervisor available 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM and on call.

Equipment & Department Info

• Ventilators used: Esprit, PB980, Avea (average 2 per shift).
• Other equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen devices.
• Hospitalist and ER physician coverage 24/7.
• Department orientation: 2 shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois Respiratory Therapist license.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
• Standard respiratory therapy skills.
• Negative drug screen required (drug-free campus).

Additional Notes

• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours.
• Dress code: Kelly green scrubs preferred but travelers may wear any professional color.
• No prior travel experience explicitly required.

This position is suitable for respiratory therapists with at least 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy (standard RT skills implied).
