Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Decatur, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medical-Surgical
• Number of Beds: 60
• Number of Staff: 50
• Floor: 4th and 5th Floors
• Patient Ratios:

  • 4th Floor: 5:1 (Med Surg Specialty)
  • 5th Floor: 6:1 (Med Surg)
• Equipment Used: Remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, dynamaps
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Alterra (Allscripts)

Shift Information

• Shift: 7 AM to 7 PM
• Weekend shifts required
• No on-call duties

Required Skills and Experience

• Valid RN license in Texas
• Med Surg experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
• Telemetry experience
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Typical Procedures on Unit

• Abdominal surgeries: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy, diagnostic procedures, paracentesis, thoracentesis, heart catheterizations
• Orthopedic procedures: gastric sleeves, total hip, knee and shoulder replacements, ortho trauma repairs (fractures)

Certifications and Licenses

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required in Texas
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHS)

Additional Information

• Floating: Mandatory float as needed to inpatient rehab, emergency department, progressive care unit; assignments will be within skill level and scope
• Dress Code: Currently black scrubs, transitioning to Medical City Blue
