Description

Certified Surgical Technician - Labor & Delivery

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care in the Delivery Room under the supervision of a professional nurse, following established practice standards. Functions under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and circulating nurse as a scrub or assist during surgical procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacologic agents relevant to surgical procedures.
  • Identify medications and solutions by name, dosage, and expiration date in collaboration with a registered nurse.
  • Maintain asepsis and sterile technique to provide optimal patient care, including establishing and maintaining sterile fields, gowning, gloving, and surgical scrubbing.
  • Assist with skin preparation, draping, and care of sterile and unsterile supplies.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, including cleaning, sterilizing, and checking supplies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation, performing sharps, sponge, and instrument counts.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs to expedite procedures and minimize patient exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently to emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and delivery room procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Surgical Technician.
  • Experience in Labor & Delivery required.
