Job Description
Seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with expertise in hematology and blood bank. The role involves performing high complexity testing and working across multiple lab specialties including hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect patient specimens.
- Use the Information System to receive patients, order and collect samples, result tests, answer clinical questions, document quality control activities, and produce reports.
- Perform lab tests by automated and manual methods according to defined policies and procedures.
- Analyze test results for validity and accuracy before releasing information to patient charts.
- Ensure turnaround times for results are met and critical results are reported and documented appropriately.
- Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures.
- Interpret and troubleshoot quality control results to ensure accuracy and precision.
- Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
- Participate in method and instrument evaluation and implementation.
- Assist in teaching and training new staff and students.
- Maintain competency in current procedures and gain competency in new methods.
Required Qualifications
- Current MLT or MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, or Microbiology).
- Experience in hematology and blood bank required.
- Qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard.
