Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Med Surg Tele
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), 36 hours per week
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends
- No on-call required
- Unit: Med Surg Tele with 9-27 beds, including Ortho Surgery, MSK Infections, Ortho Trauma
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4-5
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Licenses
- Required:
- Current RN license valid in Ohio
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) required within 1 year of start date
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- Required health documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations/vaccinations including Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB test or chest x-ray, flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- Annual compliance training including fraud, waste, and abuse training
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed)
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is expected
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic med-surg telemetry environment with a focus on orthopedic surgery and trauma care. Candidates should be comfortable with telemetry monitoring and have strong clinical skills in IV therapy and patient care.
