Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to medical surgical patients including those with COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.
• Take own patient assignments with RN support.
• Perform vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling.
• Administer oxygen via nasal cannula, manage feeding tubes, telemetry monitoring, and 12-lead EKG.
• Medication administration including oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops.
• IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring.
• Basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains), bathing, mouth care.
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female), clean catch urine collection.
• Communicate status changes to RN/MD.
• Work in a medical-surgical/telemetry care setting.
• Floating within skillset may be required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN/LVN license in New York
• Minimum of 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 during day shifts.
• Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start.
• Various background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
• Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable.
• Required certifications may include ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as per unit needs.
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start.
• Medication and competency exams as required.
• Health documents including physical exam, fit mask, TB testing, immunizations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella), drug testing, flu vaccination or declination, and eye exam.
• References and employment verification required.
• State-specific documents such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background fingerprinting may be required depending on unit.

Additional Information

• Call-off policy allows up to three canceled shifts during the contract without penalty.
• Must submit time-off and special scheduling requests upon application.
• Floating within the skillset is expected.
• Locals accepted with adjusted pay considerations.
