NICU Respiratory Therapist
Location: Grand Forks, North Dakota
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The NICU Respiratory Therapist performs and documents evaluations and patient assessments. This role provides diagnostic and therapeutic treatment, physician assistance, and patient/family education. The therapist identifies significant changes in patient condition and documents appropriately, ensuring high-quality critical care in a Level 2 Trauma Center environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory treatments and assist physicians.
- Educate patients and families according to their needs and document accordingly.
- Identify and respond to significant changes in patient condition; communicate with caregivers and document actions.
- Perform pain assessments and take appropriate actions per standard procedures.
- Complete all required documentation including order entry, EMR, medication charting, safety reports, and equipment maintenance tags.
- Process patient charges and verify reports as needed.
- Disassemble, clean, assemble, and maintain respiratory equipment; tag and report equipment needing repair or maintenance.
- Transport infants to/from referral health systems, providing critical care per organizational guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs.
Required Certifications
- Respiratory Therapist licensure from North Dakota State Board of Respiratory Care (prior to start)
- Respiratory Therapist licensure from Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (within 6 months of start)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (within 90 days of start)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (within 90 days of start)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (within 6 months of start)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - RQI Partners (within 6 months of start)
Note: New graduates must obtain registry from National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT) within 12 months of start date.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in the specialty.
- Recent travel experience required, with preference for candidates who have completed 3 prior travel assignments.
Additional Information
- Shift: 3x12 hour rotating shifts
- No radius rule; local travelers accepted with no rate difference.
