Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Nights, either 3 or 4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Yes, as needed (low census)
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet unit/facility needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Rapid Response experience and skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Insulin administration skills
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
- No local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- During hurricane season (June-November), staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid driver’s license/state ID
- Background check including 7 years of history, national and state criminal checks, sex offender registry, and international searches
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts preferred
- Drug screening (10-panel urine test within 90 days of start)
- Physical exam updated annually, including immunizations and titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Flu vaccination required during flu season (Aug-April) or medical/religious exemption accepted
- Respirator clearance annually for patient-facing staff
- Clinical references and recent performance evaluation required
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Orientation & Facility Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge
- Signed agreements including assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality, code of conduct, and user access
- Compliance with facility-specific policies and safety manuals
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge required only for specific departments (not applicable for this role)
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
- Candidates with background issues may not be eligible for expedited licensure processes
- All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
This position offers an opportunity to work in a well-staffed medical surgical unit with supportive staffing ratios and a structured night shift schedule. Candidates should be prepared for floating duties and weekend/on-call responsibilities.
