Description

Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care in a fast-paced environment focusing on acute patient changes.
  • Experience with chronic ventilator patients and use of EKG required.
  • Must be competent in rhythm strip interpretation and pass an EKG strip test at orientation.
  • Preferred experience with initiating and maintaining cardiac drips such as dobutamine, amiodarone, and cardizem.
  • Patient ratio: 1:6

Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Competency in rhythm strip interpretation mandatory.
  • Prefer competence in cardiac drip management (dobutamine, amiodarone, cardizem).
  • Experience with chronic ventilator patients and EKG use.
  • Charting system: Epic.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender registry, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III, education verification, and international checks if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.

Health & Immunization

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask types required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or declination.
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.

Other Required Documents

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID.
  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background, no headgear).
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history and explanation of any gaps over 30 days.
  • Two professional references.
  • Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units.
  • Work history verification covering 7 years.

Fingerprinting

  • Required only if the candidate’s profession does not require an Illinois state license. Must be completed in Illinois and added to the Illinois Department of Public Health Registry.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start.
  • Religious and medical exemption forms for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date for review and approval.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a telemetry unit with a supportive environment for first-time travel nurses and a manageable patient ratio. Strong cardiac monitoring skills and certification compliance are essential.
