Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (LVN / LPN)

Job Description

• Work in a 14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit designed to accommodate ED boarder patients.
• Unit is a flexible space within a GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate based on demand.
• Responsibilities include emergency department skills, blood glucose monitoring/testing, feeding tube care, Foley catheter insertion (male and female), administration of ear/eye drops, IM & SQ injections, NG/G tube care, oxygen administration, ambulation assistance, bathing, mouth care, patient admission, communication of patient status changes, isolation precautions, and vital sign monitoring.
• Must float to care for med/surg patients as needed.
• Weekend coverage every other week (EOW).
• Call requirements depend on staffing needs.
• Communication primarily via SBAR for ED patients; verbal report for other transfers/admissions.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• EPIC electronic health record system experience required.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• Scrub colors: Navy blue/white.

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN / LVN license in New York.
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year.
• Experience in a Home Care setting.
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
• Competency in phlebotomy and placing IVs.
• Telemetry experience.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
• Fit mask testing within 1 year, with acceptable mask types specified.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season.
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Additional Information

• Minimal return-to-office restrictions.
• Locals within 75 miles not accepted for this assignment.
• Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed.
• References required for agency direct hires (2 references within 3 years).
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Work history verification required (minimum 2 past employments).
• State-specific requirements include New York Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable), fingerprinting, disciplinary action search, sex offender registry check, and Medicaid exclusion list checks as required by unit or role.
