Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work 36-40 hours per week; overtime billable after 40 hours
• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Unit size: 16 beds, 16 OR suites (12-14 routinely running)
• Level 1 trauma center with reserved trauma space
• Patient types include cardiac/PV, neuro, ortho trauma, robotics, gynecology, urology, general, pediatrics, transplants, with some ENT and plastics cases
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma
• Scrub or circulate preferred (both ideal)
• Weekend on-call from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday
• Traveler required to float across multiple campuses within the area
• EMR system: EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of current operating room experience (must have 24 months of current OR experience in work history)
• Experience circulating and/or operating room experience required; scrub experience preferred
• Experience with general surgery, DaVinci robotics, pediatrics, and trauma cases required
• Additional experience highly preferred in neurology, orthopedics (primarily trauma), gynecology, urology, transplants, plastics, ENT, and vascular cases
• Trauma Level I experience required; Trauma Level II experience highly preferred
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 15 months (no first-time travelers)
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license required at time of submission
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS certification required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records within the last 3 years required
• Skills checklist specific to Operating Room Nurse discipline (scrub/scrubbing) required
• Professional references or performance evaluations within the last 24 months preferred

Additional Information

• Scrubs provided
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnover expectation under 20 minutes
• Call back pay and on-call pay available (details not included here)

Prior Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience required; must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months

This position is ideal for experienced OR nurses with strong trauma and robotics experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center environment and able to float across multiple campuses.
