Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery / OB & Med-Surg

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care for patients of all ages under physician supervision. This role requires labor and delivery experience and involves managing, organizing, and administering patient care while complying with all applicable laws and policies.

Essential Functions

• Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs based on age and development.
• Report and document symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition.
• Use the nursing process to develop, implement, revise, and evaluate formal care plans.
• Administer medications following the "Five Rights of Medication Administration."
• Educate patients and families with age-appropriate information.
• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
• Organize and prioritize daily assignments to optimize patient care.
• Demonstrate annual competency in assigned work areas.
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
• Comply with professional code of conduct.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities (if applicable):

• Assign staff according to patient needs and staff skill levels.
• Coach staff in problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Lead or participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Recognize and respond immediately to life-threatening patient complications.
• Foster cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, and staff.

Physical Demands

• Frequent use of hands and arms; talking and hearing required.
• Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing.
• Frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting/moving over 100 pounds.
• Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock risk.
• Occasional exposure to explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
• Moderate noise level.
• Classified risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.N.), Associate degree (A.D.N.), or Diploma from an accredited nursing program.

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Licensed Registered Nurse in Nebraska.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current NRP certification (required for those assigned to Obstetrics).
