Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15) with target nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:6-7.
  • Must be able to work holidays and every other weekend.
  • May be assigned to care for COVID-19 patients.
  • Assigned to Inclement Weather Team and expected to participate in Storm/Hurricane Team duties during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding is required.
  • Charge nurse role required for night travelers.

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Adult and geriatric general medical-surgical patients.
  • Daily census approximately 43 patients.
  • Unit includes care involving:
    • Insulin drips
    • Heparin drips
    • Wound vac dressing changes
    • High flow oxygen
    • Occasional short-term BiPAP respiratory support (no additional training required)
  • No PCU level patients on this unit.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
  • Charge nurse experience

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Must complete required facility-specific education and compliance training prior to start.
  • Must complete medication safety training and other mandatory modules as required.

Additional Requirements

  • Call required if scheduled on call shifts.
  • Must be able to work holidays and participate in emergency response teams during inclement weather or disasters.
  • Must comply with all background checks, health screenings, and immunization requirements including:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Required immunizations or titers (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella)
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
    • Drug screening within 6 months of start
  • Must provide photo ID and complete all required documentation for credentialing and badge issuance.

Scheduling & Shift Details

  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week accepted (no overtime billed until after 48 hours).
  • Contract length: 13 weeks.
  • Weekend and holiday work required.

Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive call-offs or RTO may result in cancellation.
  • Travelers may be reassigned mid-contract based on facility needs.

This position is ideal for a Medical Surgical RN with solid EPIC experience, comfortable working night shifts, and willing to participate in emergency response teams. Prior travel experience is not required.
