Job Opportunity: Cardiac Cath Lab Tech
Location: Alamogordo, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
The Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist I supports cardiac catheterization procedures by preparing the lab and operating essential equipment such as fluoro imaging and digital image acquisition. This role involves accurate documentation of patient information and hemodynamic measurements, maintaining aseptic technique, ensuring patient safety, and serving as the radiation safety representative during X-ray use. The technologist collaborates with the medical team to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency.
Work Schedule
- 4 days per week
- 10 hours per day
- Call required every other weekend (Friday 4:00 PM to Monday 5:59 AM)
Responsibilities
- Ensure major equipment is operational and document quality control
- Participate in daily room checks and supply stocking
- Access daily patient schedules and prepare equipment and room for procedures
- Collaborate with procedure team and Cath Lab Lead/Coordinator for patient care and efficiency
- Enter patient information and procedure documentation accurately
- Perform hemodynamic measurements and ECG recognition during procedures
- Maintain proper patient positioning and safety on procedure table
- Train and operate cath lab equipment including X-Ray, IVUS, ICE, contrast injector, intra-aortic balloon pump, rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, LV assist device, etc.
- Support physician needs and patient safety during procedures
- Adhere strictly to aseptic technique and stop procedures if sterile technique is compromised
- Follow organizational policies on patient safety, privacy, infection control, and communication
- Act as radiation safety representative during X-ray use
- Perform fluoro imaging and digital image acquisition as directed
- Support patient transport as needed
- Engage in teamwork and knowledge sharing
- Uphold departmental productivity and attendance standards
- Promote organizational values and participate in process improvement and collaborative care models
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology school, or associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an acute care setting (preferred)
Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only) - required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only) - required
- State licensure required based on modality:
- New Mexico: Registered Radiologic Technologist (RRT) or Fluoroscopy (FUS) by MIRTP NMED
Preferred Certifications (not required)
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by CCI
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI
- Radiography (R), Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI), Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), or Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) by ARRT
- Abdomen (AB) or Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS, Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS, Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS
