Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) cases. The role involves floating to the Main OR when no CVOR cases are available. The position requires scrub experience for open CVOR cases and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). Patient cases include open heart adult surgeries such as CABG and valve procedures (aortic, mitral, pulmonic).
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 3 years of CVOR experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Scrub experience specifically for TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
- Knowledge of cardiovascular devices and procedures including Impella, HeartMate, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR
Work Schedule & Environment
- On-call requirement: 32 total hours per month.
- No block schedule.
- Locals accepted.
- Hospital provides scrubs.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics; confirm with program coordinator if needed.
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license for New Jersey.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Two references within the last 2 years (at least one managerial).
- Background check within 30 days of start.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required.
- Completion of facility-specific floating policy.
- Completion of annual education and safety training.
- Pass/Fail competency exams including medication, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, and pharmacology within 72 hours of signing.
- Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination.
- Other health documents including immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap) as required.
Additional Notes
- RNs may be required to float to the Main OR.
- Patient mix includes complex cardiac surgeries.
- Must be able to provide government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements.
- Candidates with a history of positive TB must complete additional clearance steps.
- Candidates must complete required competency exams and certifications prior to or shortly after start.
- Facility requires acknowledgment of pass/fail testing and may require remediation if exams are failed.
- Candidates must complete annual education sign-off and other mandatory facility-specific training.
