Job Description

• This is a travel nurse position in a 32-bed mixed model Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 15 PCU beds and 17 Med-Surg beds.
• The unit focuses on cardio-pulmonary care, emphasizing pulmonary conditions.
• Primary patient population includes cardiac medical cases, valve replacements, COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre and post), trach-to-vent patients, neurodegenerative diseases requiring trach-to-vent, trauma (cervical spinal fractures) requiring trach-to-vent, flu, TB, and COVID-19 patients.
• Travelers are expected to work every other weekend, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs.
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with provided training.
• Floating to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be expected.
• Teaching facility environment: travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Staffing Ratios

• PCU assignments: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Med-Surg assignments: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Occasionally, Med-Surg and PCU patients may be mixed in assignments of 4-5 patients.

Additional Information

• This position requires flexibility to float between Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU units as needed.
• The unit is a teaching environment; travel nurses must be comfortable with precepting students.
• On-site PAPR respirators are available and approved at this facility.
• Extensive orientation and mandatory training modules are required prior to start.

Summary

This travel RN position in Indiana offers the opportunity to work in a specialized PCU with a focus on cardio-pulmonary care. Candidates must have at least 2 years of nursing experience, appropriate certifications, and be willing to work in a teaching hospital environment with floating and charge nurse responsibilities as needed. Compliance with immunization, health screenings, and facility-specific requirements is mandatory.
