Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU)
  • Shift: Day/Night rotation, every other weekend (rotation every 4 weeks, subject to unit needs)
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), approximately 36 hours/week
  • On-Call: Required
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience (highest required years of experience)
  • Skills: IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience with Epic system

Required Certifications

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification - AHA certified

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred (not required)

Required Background & Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check (including FBI and state fingerprinting) within 90 days of start
  • Monthly monitoring through federal exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting with specific code requirements, valid within 1 year of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Physical exam documentation within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health requirements including:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (mask required if declining)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application including education verification required
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Floating within units of similar or lower acuity is required
  • On-call availability is required
  • Schedule and rotation details may be adjusted based on unit needs and final confirmation during interview

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Experience with ventilator management
  • Experience with intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system
