Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM – 11:00 PM)
- On-Call: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM on weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: Up to 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday period (Christmas and New Year's)
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet unit/facility needs
Facility Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- Main OR with 21 suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% RNs trained to scrub and circulate, 25% Certified Surgical Technologists
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, with OR experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks (called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
- Background checks including 7 years of history, criminal, sex offender registry, and others
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
- Drug screening (10-panel within 90 days)
- Physical exam updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) and annual TB questionnaire
- Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Radiation badge process mandatory for OR staff requiring it
- Clinical references and employment verification required
Additional Notes
- Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage access
- During hurricane season (June-November), staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
- Orientation modules and facility-specific training must be completed prior to start
- Passport-style photo required for badge issuance before start date
