Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) with a strong background in Level I Trauma care. This role requires flexibility to float within the scope of practice to meet facility needs across various surgical specialties.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
  • Trauma experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Job Details

  • Unit Assignments: Core 3 & 4 units including General Surgery, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Orthopedics, GU, Colorectal Robotics
  • Responsibilities:
    • Circulating nurse required; scrubbing preferred
    • Must be well-rounded and current in most areas except Cardiovascular and Transplant (floating expected)
  • Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
  • Rooms: 21 operating rooms
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free

Special Requirements

  • Trauma Level I experience is mandatory
  • Must be able to float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Indiana RN license and required certifications must be in hand before submission
  • Locals accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
  • Drug screening (10-panel, negative result within 12 months)
  • Physical exam within 12 months
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap – strongly recommended
    • Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, completed annually
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and mandatory training modules prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must provide 2-3 days of interview availability when submitting candidates
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; must have Indiana RN license active before start
  • Floating to various surgical specialties expected except Cardiovascular and Transplant
  • On-site fit testing available only as a last resort with limitations
  • Facility requires completion of multiple mandatory orientation modules before start
  • Local travel nurses accepted with some pay adjustments (not included here)

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with trauma expertise who are flexible and able to work call shifts and holidays in a fast-paced acute care environment.
