Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel / Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with experience in both Adult Critical Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) settings. This is a night shift position (3 shifts of 12 hours each) with every other weekend required and holiday coverage expected. No on-call requirement. The role involves floating between Adult and NICU units.


Key Responsibilities

  • Airway management and suctioning (endotracheal tube, nasal/oral airway placement, tracheostomy suctioning)
  • Extubation procedures
  • Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
  • Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and drawing
  • Use and troubleshooting of ventilators (Draeger V500, Servo U)
  • Management of respiratory medications and aerosol treatments (e.g., Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Spiriva, Tobramycin, Xopenex)
  • Operation of respiratory support devices including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP, and trach collars
  • Weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
  • Assisting in high-risk deliveries and umbilical blood gas collection
  • Documentation using Cerner electronic health record system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience working with Adult patients
  • Experience working with Neonate patients

Special Equipment Experience

  • Ventilators: Draeger V500, Servo U
  • Respiratory devices: BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, aerosol setup masks and trach
  • Comfortable with ABG drawing and interpretation
  • Preferred skills: Bronchoscopy, Bicarbonate management, Inhaled Flolan, Ketamine, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide (INo), Theophylline

Work Environment

  • Short-term acute care teaching hospital
  • 338 staffed beds
  • Electronic charting with Cerner
  • Scrub color: ceil blue (scrubs not provided)
  • Flu vaccination required for all employees

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start
  • Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations
  • Immunization and health documentation including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, and seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency exams (including medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, and pharmacology competency)
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps

This position is ideal for experienced respiratory therapists comfortable working in both adult critical care and neonatal intensive care environments, with prior travel experience preferred.
