Description

Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 13-week contract assignment
  • Call 2 times per schedule
  • Must be able to circulate and scrub during surgeries
  • Required experience: Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience
  • Experience required in robotic and ENT surgeries
  • Experience in orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required
  • Patient mix includes all OR specialties except open heart surgery
  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • Scrubs provided
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in ENT, orthopedic, vascular, thoracic, and neurosurgery
  • Experience with robotic surgery
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Ability to circulate and scrub during surgeries

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA accepted, RQI and instructor cards acceptable)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 12 months of start
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication required with remediation policy
  • Competency exams (Dysrhythmia/EKG, IV Therapy/Infusion) required within 12 months of start
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Peds ER, and Behavioral Health RNs
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience
  • Experience with robotic and ENT surgeries
  • Experience in orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries
  • Prior travel experience is not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen)
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Fit testing for respirators required on-site prior to start (annual updates required)
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
  • Respiratory medical clearance required prior to start (annual update)
  • Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination

Background & Documentation

  • Criminal background check required within 30 days of start
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
  • Two professional references within the last 2 years required (one managerial)
  • Skills checklist for scrub and circulate skills must be completed and updated annually
  • Various facility-specific attestations and acknowledgments required prior to start

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, trauma center operating room environment
  • Must be flexible to work various OR specialties except open heart
  • Scrubs and necessary PPE provided
  • Charting and documentation performed in EPIC system
