Registered Nurse - PCU/Neuro, Stepdown

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Registered Nurse for Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Neuro, Stepdown
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 recent years
  • Neuro experience preferred, but strong general medicine or surgical experience also considered
  • Floating to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, PCU units
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Blocked scheduling: Not available
  • On-call: No
  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Local candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)
  • Flu vaccine required; no exemptions or declinations accepted
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), including experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Licensure

  • Must hold a current North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Social Security Card (if used for I9)
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days of start
  • Education verification as applicable
  • OFAC sanctions list search within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory, no exemptions)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) or positive antibody titers (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
  • Candidate must set up a guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
  • Flu vaccine is strictly required; refusal results in contract cancellation
  • Floating assignments may include Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, and PCU units

This position is suitable for nurses with at least 2 years of recent experience, preferably with neuro or strong general medicine/surgical background, who are comfortable working in a progressive care/stepdown environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
