Description
Registered Nurse - MICU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) with adult and geriatric patients.
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts; schedule may include days, nights, or a combination based on staffing needs. Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
- Patient diagnoses commonly include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, sepsis, and complications from oncologic treatments.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), with MICU experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio required.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start).
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start.
- Required health documents including:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and/or titers for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year or TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Annual completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training and compliance policies.
- Completion of unit-specific competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (EKG exam must be updated annually).
Additional Requirements
- Must provide 2 professional references, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role.
- Completion of skills checklist and employment application required prior to start.
- Adherence to dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
Patient Population
- Adults and geriatrics with critical illnesses requiring intensive monitoring and advanced interventions.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity ICU environment with diverse and complex patient needs, requiring strong critical care nursing skills and certifications.
