Description
Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse - Neuro Unit
Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- General Neuro Unit (3 South) with 19 private rooms
- Patient population ranges from young adult to geriatric
- Focus on medical surgical level monitoring, interventions, and care
- Patient types include medical, surgical, neurology, and neurosurgical diagnoses
- Equipped with telemetry and oximetry monitoring
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
Shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, night shift
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
- Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
Charting System
- Epic
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as applicable
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) as applicable
- Chemotherapy certification as applicable
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as applicable
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) as applicable
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal) as applicable
Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas with primary source verification
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and federal exclusions
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and/or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
- Complete employment application and 7-year work history verification
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
