Job Opportunity: Wound Care Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Focus on pressure injury assessments, management, and treatment
  • Proficient in acute care/critical care settings, including ICU patients with open heart surgery, heart and lung transplants
  • Responsibilities include validating staging, assessments, documentation, and treatments for pressure injuries
  • Collaborate with primary nurses and educators
  • Maintain documentation of key metrics for each patient with pressure injuries
  • Flexibility required for end-of-shift time based on patient needs, documentation, admits/discharges, and staffing

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Wound Care experience within the last year (0 years of wound care experience acceptable)
  • Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and acute care settings
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • IV Certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Wound Care
  • Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated; proficiency in acute/critical care and wound care expected
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (1st timer and local candidates are acceptable)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or equivalent required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred for adult critical care units; confirm with program coordinator if required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, PALS, NRP) – confirm as applicable
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for clinical staff in critical care and emergency units
  • IV Certification required for all RNs excluding OR

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within the past 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable

Background & Documentation

  • Criminal background check required within 30 days of start
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
  • Various facility-specific attestations and acknowledgments required prior to start

  • Flexibility in shift end times due to patient care needs and staffing
  • Must be proficient in acute care and critical care nursing environments
  • Documentation and data tracking skills essential for pressure injury management
