Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse - Neuro
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Medical-Surgical Neuro experience for a 12-hour night shift position. The unit primarily cares for stroke patients and other neurological diagnoses including neurosurgery, epilepsy, and subdural hematomas. The role requires floating to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas and possibly COVID care units.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience within the last year
- Completion of 2 or more prior travel nursing assignments
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
Work Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Census: Approximately 42 patients daily, 43 beds/rooms
- Unit: Includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with optional training
- Scheduling: Preferred scheduling; must make up any missed shifts within the same week or at contract end
- Scrubs: Navy color required
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: 36 hours
- Must complete medication and pharmacology competency exams
- Required to complete facility-specific education and compliance training
- Must complete bloodborne pathogens training and other safety modules as required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with documentation)
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening within 6 months of start
- Physical exam as per travel agency standards (not required by client)
- N95 fit testing may be required (can be completed onsite if needed)
Additional Notes
- No call-offs or additional time off allowed after booking; may result in contract cancellation
- Must pass all required background checks and verifications prior to start
- Floating and weekend work are mandatory
- Block scheduling may not always be guaranteed
- Candidate must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation immediately after signing contract
