Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Registered Nurse)
Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Patient population: Mixed medical/surgical and intermediate care patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts, Days
- Travel radius: 50 miles (no local candidates)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- Prior travel experience not required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) certification
- Chemotherapy certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- National Tech Certification Verification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- NURSYS license verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- I-9 verification
- E-Verify compliance
- 7-year background check (updated annually) including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry, and education verification
- Education verification (highest level) required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- Photo for badge required
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
- Work history verification for the past 7 years
Additional Notes
- Orientation and fingerprinting requirements apply (fingerprinting onsite for certain states)
- Core HIPAA and safety training required
- Competency exams and color blindness testing may be required depending on profession
- No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with med/surg and intermediate care patients, who have Epic experience and meet the required certifications and compliance standards.
