Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed
Charting System: EPIC experience required
Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes


Job Description

  • Provide patient care on a complex care unit including medicine, orthopedic overflow, and complex long-term patients.
  • Patient assignment supported by an RN.
  • Floating within skillset may be required.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:5–6.
  • Unit involves care for acute medical surgical patients with needs such as blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts/maintenance.
  • Experience with respiratory care including high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care.
  • Feeding tube management, telemetry monitoring, wound care, surgical drains, and use of rapid response/code teams.
  • Must wear scrub colors in any combination of navy blue and white.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid LPN / LVN license in New York.
  • Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent med-surg experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Clinical skills including blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, feeding tube care/management, and pacemaker (temporary/permanent) management.
  • Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
  • Proficiency with EPIC charting system.

Experience

  • Specialty: LVN / LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse)
  • Required years of experience: Minimum 2 years acute care experience within the last 2 years.
  • Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted.

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, SSN trace, national criminal and sex offender checks, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Various certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) as applicable.
  • Physical exam, drug testing, immunizations, and health screenings must be completed within 5 days of contract signing.
  • Compliance with state-specific requirements such as nurse aide registry and criminal background fingerprinting if applicable.
  • References and employment verification required.

Important Notes

  • The client may cancel up to three shifts during the contract without penalty.
  • Requests for time off, block scheduling, and special scheduling must be submitted at the time of application.
  • Locals are accepted with adjusted pay considerations.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete health-related requirements and lab work promptly after contract signing.
