Job Opportunity: Medical Technician (LPN) - Evenings
Location: Bangor, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
This role involves splitting shifts as a Charge Nurse and a Medical Technician (LPN) responsible for medication administration on a long-term care or skilled care nursing unit. The Medical Technician (LPN) administers medications under the supervision of a registered nurse, following standard nursing procedures and facility policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medications via oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, eye, or ear routes under RN supervision
- Maintain medication cart and ensure storage areas are clean, neat, and secured as appropriate
- Obtain permission from licensed nurse before administering PRN medications
- Perform counts of non-narcotic countable medications with medication technician or licensed nurse at shift start and end
- Do not administer Schedule II drugs or sliding scale drugs
- Check medication supplies for each resident and coordinate reorders with nursing staff
- Take vital signs, including apical pulse rates, following correct procedures
- Report significant changes in resident condition or vital signs promptly to Charge Nurse or Supervisor
- Document medication administration on Medication Administration Record (MAR) per policy
- Work effectively with frequent interruptions and emotionally upset residents/patients and family members
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors
- Provide excellent care to long-term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients
- Work independently with flexibility, integrity, and professionalism
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license required
- BLS/BCLS certification required
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Traveler must reside 50+ miles from the facility
- Facility may cancel or call off up to three shifts during the 13-week assignment
- Ability to work evenings as scheduled
