Registered Nurse - Med Surg Telemetry

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience in high acuity Medical-Surgical Telemetry or higher. Oncology experience is preferred but not required. The role involves floating between Med Surg and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Oncology units, including specialties such as Bone Marrow Transplant, Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare.

Work Details

• Staffing ratios: PCU typically 1:3 (can be 1:4 with mixed acuity), Med Surg Telemetry ideally 1:4 (can be 1:5)
• Variable weekends based on unit needs
• No set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests are submitted and balanced before final schedule posting
• Orientation: First week is Monday-Friday day shifts; five bedside orientation shifts between weeks 2 and 3, then independent practice
• Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to change based on staffing needs
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification

Additional Notes

• Prior oncology experience is preferred but not mandatory
• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned
• Floating across multiple oncology and med-surg units with varied patient populations
• Emphasis on infection control and patient safety
• Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to start
• Orientation includes both classroom and bedside components
