Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Surgery

Location: Plantation, Florida
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
• Number of Beds: 2 Open Heart Surgical Suites
• Staff: Typically 2 RNs and 2 Techs on day shift; night shift is on-call
• Patient Ratio: 2:1
• Equipment: Open Heart instrumentation and supplies, TEE equipment, Ultrasound
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Call Requirements: On-call approximately every other day and every other weekend

Typical Procedures

• Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
• Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
• Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
• Pacemaker procedures
• Laser lead extractions
• Some thoracic procedures
• Some endovascular procedures
• Standby for Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TVAR) and mitral clips
• Prefer experience in minimally invasive cardiac procedures

Additional Responsibilities

• May provide lunch relief in other service lines including Vascular, Robotics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neuro/Spine, Urology, Podiatry, Thoracic Surgery, and Plastic Surgery
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate healthcare services before, during, and after surgical procedures
• Ensure sterile procedures are followed throughout surgery
• Ensure necessary equipment and medications are available for the OR team
• Record progress and outcomes of surgical procedures
• Ensure proper handling of specimens
• Provide quality control and ensure patient safety at all times

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Perioperative Assessment or Pharmacology knowledge, including RN Assessment or USP 800 Hazardous Drug Risk

Additional Notes

• Scrubs are provided by the facility (OR/CVOR scrub color)
• On-call is required as part of the role
