Registered Nurse (Med Surg - LTAC)

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: MedSurg (Long-Term Acute Care - Medical Surgical)
• Number of Beds: 10
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Patient Types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
• Common Skills Required: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care
• RN Responsibilities: Titrate drips (e.g., Heparin), troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow)
• Respiratory Therapy: RT manages all respiratory equipment
• Telemetry: Tele/monitor techs present; RNs do not read their own strips
• Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs with 1:10 ratio
• Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available 24/7

Schedule & Orientation

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
• Call/Standby: None currently, but subject to change
• Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts unit-specific orientation with preceptor

Requirements & Qualifications

• License: Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred but not required
• Drug Screen: Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Additional: Qualified Med Surg nurses may float to ICU and Acute Rehab units as needed
• Dress Code: Scrubs only; only approved t-shirts allowed (any color)

Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty
• Nurse aids/patient care techs assist with patient care duties

Experience Required: Not explicitly stated; typical Med Surg RN experience expected (minimum 1-2 years recommended)
