Unit Details

• Unit Type: Acute Rehab
• Number of Beds: 29
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 5:1
  • Nights: 6:1
• Nurse Aide Ratio: Approximately 1:9 or 1:10
• Rehab Services Available: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST)
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP (night use for sleep apnea), nasal cannula (including high flow, but no heated high flow)
• Drip Management: Only heparin drip; RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Telemetry: Telemetry available but not monitored by RNs; RNs do not read strips
• Floating: Required to float to LTAC and med-surg units; no floating to the acute rehab unit unless trained
• Shifts:

  • Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday rotation
• Call/Standby: None required
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs; no t-shirts unless approved

Orientation

• 2 days classroom orientation
• 2-3 days/nights preceptorship
• Training includes specific rehab documentation and quality reporting processes

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA)
• Strong neuro skills required
• Must be able to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
• Drug-free workplace: Negative drug screen required

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
• No charge nurses; house supervisors are present

Summary

This is a 13-week contract for an RN with strong neuro skills to work in an acute rehab unit caring for patients with neurological, trauma, cardiac, and complex medical conditions. The role requires flexibility to float to other units, participation in team conferences, and adherence to a structured orientation program. Weekend and holiday rotations are required every other schedule.
