Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience to work in a high-volume Emergency Room (ER) at a Level 1 Trauma Center. The role involves caring for adult patients, including neurotrauma, cardiovascular, and medical/surgical ICU cases.
Schedule
- Typical shifts: 3x12-hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Option for 4x12-hour shifts upon request
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Call-off policy allows 1 shift off per 2 weeks
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Clinical Skills
- Ventilator and respiratory support troubleshooting, including high-pressure alarms
- Weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
- Airway management skills including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Proficient in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler)
- Skilled in administering Mucomyst
- Experience with inhaled aerosol/medication delivery system support including inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) with iNOvent
Unit Details
- Patient ratio: 1:25
- Patient population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Equipment used: Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) with iNOvent, LTV1200 ventilators
- Floating within skillset required
Additional Information
- First-time travelers accepted; 1 year of travel experience preferred but not required
- Locals are not accepted due to radius restrictions
- Must submit all requests for time off with application
- Background checks, drug screening, and various health and compliance documents required prior to start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required, including communicable disease clearance
- Fit testing and immunizations (e.g., TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella) must be current
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start required
