Description

Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights (7 PM - 7 AM) including weekends and holidays as needed
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: May be required to float between similar units or campuses within the local area (up to 60 miles) based on census and staffing needs
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
  • Beds: 75 staffed beds
  • Charting System: Epic

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and employment/education verification
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts may be used as placeholders if verification is pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RN licenses
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to meet job demands without restrictions
    • Immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or documented history with chest x-ray as applicable
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (August 1 - April 30) or medical/religious exemption; documentation must be uploaded by December 5 deadline
    • Respirator medical clearance annually via virtual questionnaire
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style color photo with solid light background, frontal view, cropped from shoulders up, no sunglasses or hats
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit of assignment
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers; no gaps unaccounted for in application/resume
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and general competency exams required as applicable

Additional Information

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location) required prior to start; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June through November), with peak activity in August and September
  • Scheduling: Block schedule accommodations may be requested but are not guaranteed

This position is ideal for ER Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of ER experience who are licensed in South Carolina or hold a Compact RN license, comfortable working night shifts with weekend and holiday coverage, and have experience with Epic EHR.
