Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IMC
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for an Intermediate Care (IMC) unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients. The role requires strong teamwork, adherence to call-off policies, and the ability to titrate Levo (levothyroxine).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with rapid response and code team emergency response
- Cardiovascular procedure experience including TR Band management
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Feeding tube care and management experience
- Blood product administration experience
- Central line care and management experience
- Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Triage skills
- ICP monitoring
- Conscious sedation experience
- Charge nurse experience
- Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
Work Details
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3-4 (days and nights)
- Unit Census: Up to 24 patients
- Shift Options: 36 and 48-hour shifts available
- Shift Times: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Float Requirement: Yes, to other intermediate areas and critical care units (ICU/Stepdown)
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts every six weeks
- Orientation: 32 hours total (8-hour computer class + 2 shifts on unit)
- Dress Code: Navy blue and white scrubs
- Scheduling: Per unit needs; no working out RTO (return to office) once on unit
Patient Population
- Intermediate care patients with a neurological sub-specialty focus
- Medical intermediate patients
Systems Used
- PYXIS
- EPIC
- SBAR communication tool
Important Notes
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Strict adherence to call-off policy is required
- Teamwork and behavioral expectations must be met in all interactions
- No working out RTO once on the unit is allowed
Required Onboarding and Compliance
- Background check within 6 months
- Drug screening within 6 months
- Immunizations and health screenings including TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or exemption
- Competency exams including dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must score 82% or higher)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blindness testing within 1 year
- Various facility-specific compliance and orientation documents and trainings
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with neurological and intermediate care skills who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, specialized IMC environment.
