Job Opportunity: CVOR Certified Surgical First Assistant
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must be proficient in endoscopic vein harvesting.
- CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience required.
- Must have experience with 3s or 4s in vein harvesting and cardiac areas.
- Will accept Surgical First Assistant (SFA) or Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA).
- 5 years of experience strongly preferred.
- Previous travel experience strongly preferred.
- Float requirement includes general department first assistant coverage in ortho, vascular, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries when cardiac is not applicable.
- Shift options: 8 days on/40 hours per week or 10 days on/40 hours per week.
- Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
- Call requirement: 12-18 days per month.
- Weekend requirement: 2-3 weekends per month.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- CVOR First Assist with 5 years of experience
- CVOR First Assist experience within the last year
- Proficient ability to harvest vein endoscopically
- Experience with 3s or 4s in vein harvesting and cardiac areas
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only.
- Other certifications as applicable based on unit description (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC).
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with a passing score of at least 80%.
- Competency exam in specialty completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with a passing score of at least 80%.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Education verification required; copy of highest degree or diploma acceptable.
- Michigan fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for applicable positions.
- State-specific registry clearances required for pediatric and certain specialty placements.
- Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start, no exceptions.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer each)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
Additional Requirements
- Complete application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
- Personal or auto insurance proof required for home health roles (if applicable).
- Compliance with appearance standards, code of conduct, and safety policies.
- Fit mask testing required on-site with specific mask model (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for applicable roles.
Notes
- Candidates must be able to float to multiple surgical specialties as needed.
- This is a travel/contract position with a desired ASAP start date.
- Call and weekend coverage are mandatory parts of the schedule.
