Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Must be proficient in endoscopic vein harvesting.
  • Cardio-Vascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience required.
  • Experience with 3rd or 4th generation vein harvesting and cardiac areas is a must.
  • Shift options: 8 days on/40 hours per week or 10 days on/40 hours per week.
  • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
  • Call requirement: 12-18 days per month.
  • Weekend requirement: 2-3 weekends per month.
  • Float coverage required for general department First Assistant duties including ortho, vascular, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries when cardiac is not applicable.
  • Will accept Surgical Technologist First Assistants (STFA) or Registered Nurse First Assistants (RNFA).
  • CVOR experience is mandatory.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
  • Minimum 1 year of Cardio-Vascular Operating Room (CVOR) First Assist experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting.
  • Cardio-Vascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only.
  • Other certifications as applicable based on unit assignment.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with a passing score of at least 80%.
  • Competency exam in specialty completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with a passing score of at least 80%.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start.
  • Proof of immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
  • 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18.
  • State-specific registry clearances and fingerprinting as required by Michigan regulations.

Additional Requirements

  • Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years of work history, no gaps.
  • One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
  • Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Compliance with facility-specific policies including code of conduct and appearance standards.
  • Fit testing as applicable based on assignment location and role.

Notes

  • Candidates must be able to float to various surgical specialties as needed.
  • Prior travel experience is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • This is a travel contract position with guaranteed 40 hours per week.
